About the concert
Praised by The Strad for “acute tonal sensitivity and vivid imagination”, we look forward to welcoming award-winning violist Yue Qi to Leeds. Following the success of his acclaimed album First Meeting, this programme will interweave traditional Chinese music with western classical viola repertoire. As a soloist, Yue has collaborated with the China Broadcast-Film Symphony Orchestra, the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, the Kunming Nie Er Symphony Orchestra, among others. In 2023, Yue was invited to give a solo recital at the 48th International Viola Congress, where he gave the world premiere of《Torch Festival》by esteemed Chinese composer Professor Yuankai Bao. Yue has performed across China, Europe, the US and Asia, and is currently Professor and Executive Dean of the Institute of Chinese Classical Music at the School of Arts, Renmin University of China.
